National Grid has lodged another application to demolish the last remaining Granton gasometer, and company representatives will attend a public meeting organised by Granton and District Community Council to discuss the proposals next week.
The meeting will be held on Monday (25 February) from 7 – 9pm in Royston Wardieburn Community Centre. All welcome.

So what was the outcome of the meeting? I live right by it and a family member used to work on it. Once again what can be done if it is literally falling apart. I had a look yesterday and you can actually see the bits that are missing and the deep pitting in the main structure. This is what i could see.. i’d imagine under the foundations it’s even worse. Again have you actually read through the planning app. showing how grim the situation is…
I have seen no actual plans with substance to show it can be used in the future for any sort of area regeneration so unless the council buys it i can’t actually see the NG keeping it. Therefore it will fall down or be demolished due to being close to falling down.

National grid have been refused to dismantle the Gas tower even after a public enquiry What part of NO do they not understand . It’s part of Granton’s Industrial Heritage . National grid are proposing to buils a playpark and a fitness Trail AYE RIGHT . I’m sure that idea will help the community . We already have a fitness centre at Ainslie Park and Royston Wardieburn Community Centre . Plus National Grid would not maintain the prposed playpark

A lot of people living in North Edinburgh are very attached to this historical landmark and would be sad to see it go. Yes Mr Sutherland it is ‘oor’ gastower! Isobel, you are as antagonistic as ever – not great for an officebearing community council representative, if you still are? Have you read and understood the community council code of conduct? PS the gas tower is strictly speaking in the West Pilton West Granton community council area so I hope there will be a consultation there too.
